Overview...
For us, many aspects of quantity surveying involve estimating and assessing preliminary costs, consideration of the type of procurement project delivered, tender document preparation, and financially controlling schemes once they make it to site.
Entry requirements...
You must have a 2:1 honours degree. It can be in any discipline, although construction, legal, business or economics-related subjects are particularly welcome.
Although an understanding and commitment to quantity surveying is vital, we're more interested in you as a person.
We're looking for candidates who can also:
•Work on site where necessary
•Demonstrate high standards of written and verbal communication
•Show good analytical, problem solving and inductive reasoning skills
•Be able to embrace change
•Collaborate with colleagues, share your information and knowledge
•Focus strongly on internal and external customers
•Show a commitment to equailty, diversity and inclusion
•Work on your own initiative, seeking out new opportunities for learning, career progression and challenges
•Identify project goals and work towards them
•Demonstrate a structured and methodical approach to tasks, identifying priorities and setting deadlines
Applying...
We can only accept one application per candidate, so please think carefully about which scheme is right for you. It isn't possible to transfer your application to a different scheme.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, but we recommend applying early.
Joining us...
We manage many different modes of transport, many with budgets which run in to their billions each year. Our Underground system dates back to 1863, so one of the biggest challenges we face is upgrading our existing infrastructure while continuing to run an efficient service.
When you join us on the quantity surveying scheme, you'll play a valuable role in a number of high profile and complex projects. These could be anything from the Hammersmith Flyover upgrade to the £500m redevelopment of Victoria Underground station.
You could find yourself working within the Rail and London Underground, Surface Transport areas or our commercial team in Corporate Services, helping to deliver some of the most exciting and challenging transport, Rail, Highway and engineering projects in London.
While on our graduate training scheme your placements will be structured to ensure that you receive the experience necessary to meet your APC log book requirements. Each placement will support your personal development needs, and may include:
•Construction processes for engineering projects, internally and externally
•Contract administration
•The preparation of cost estimates advising on construction, planning, regulations and standards
•Design processes from conception to implementation
•Risk management
•Project management
•Health and safety
