"There’s no such thing as a standard technical role."
GCHQ is a secret intelligence and security organisation, which gathers and analyses digital and electronic signals from many channels across the world. This information is then converted into intelligence, which helps to inform national security, military operations, police activity and foreign policy to tackle ever evolving global threats.
This vital work goes right to the heart of our national security, covering the full range of IT and telecommunications development. We’re welcoming graduates who are ready to tackle rare and complex challenges, explore possibilities and grow their expertise in this unique environment.
Our technical roles
Our technical graduate roles are extremely varied and range from IT Engineer and Software Developer, to R&D expert and Cryptographer. We welcome those with technical degrees and graduates who’ve gained their knowledge through work, or via hobbies or interests. Whether you want to build on your existing talents; use what you’ve learnt at work or university; or are a mathematician keen to use your expertise to the full, we’ve got something for you.
Career development
Rest assured that your development is a priority. We are committed to helping you realise your potential and increase your professional competence. It helps that you’ll be working with some of the best technologists in the country. They’ll be keen to help you improve yourself and to give you early responsibility.
The rewards
Pay and reward is currently under review, but you can expect a starting salary between £25.5k and £27.5k, with a packages closer to £30k for certain specialist roles. GCHQ has a generous bonus scheme, particularly for high performers.
Although most graduate recruits are full-time and based in Cheltenham, we don't want constraints like that to stand in the way of attracting the very top talent. We offer a variety of flexible work patterns including compressed hours, reduced hours and part-time.
