What types of things will I be working on?
During your placements you will build on your existing software skills by working as a member of a software team and following the Software Development Lifecycle which that team is using. The scheme also provides various training courses and support where considered necessary which is part of the process required in develop you into a professional engineer over the 2 years. Experience will be gained in:
- Programming languages, including C# and C++ with WPF UI and occasionally others
- A variety of software development methodologies, including Agile based lifecycles
- Long term team based “Scrum” software development lifecycles
- Architectural design
- Version control
- Configuration management
- Release control

By the end of the scheme, you will have developed an idea of which area you would like to join as a full Software Engineer where your career can grow to roles such as:
- Senior Software Engineer
- Principal Software Engineer
- Technical Manager

Where will I be working?
This role is based out of one of our main sites in New Mills, near Wotton-under Edge in Gloucestershire. As Renishaw sites are based in semi-rural locations, applicants must have their own form of transport or be willing to relocate to the local area. Software Engineering is often a distributed function and home working is a usual arrangement within Renishaw software product teams.
What do I need and how do I apply?
We’re looking for passionate engineers expecting a 2:1 or above (or equivalent) in Software Engineering or Computer Science or similar.
Training and development is excellent so candidates with no experience but a keen interest in engineering will be strongly considered. If you are excited about the role but feel as though you don’t meet all the requirements, we would encourage you still to apply.
