What types of things will I be working on?

On this 2-year graduate scheme, starting September 2024, you will undergo 4, 6-month rotations, working on a variety of real-life projects across a variety of engineering functions. This includes:

• Signals and Systems
• Electronic devices and circuits
• Control systems
• Embedded systems
• Communications
• Conceptual, prototype design and development testing

You will gain knowledge and experience of a wide range of processes including Analogue to Digital Design; Embedded software to VHDL and DSP coding; Using DC to through to RF; Designing with Passives to Custom Silicon Design; From Magnetic Sensing to Opto-Electronics; Creating Circuit Design to PCB Layout; And from Blue-Sky Research to Final Product Development. 

What career opportunities are available?

Electronics Graduates develop a wide range of knowledge that enables them to become versatile team members in a variety of roles which could include: 

• Senior Design Engineer
• Principal Design Engineer
• Technical/Design Manager

Where will I be working?

This role is based at the research park of Heriot-Watt university on the western outskirts of Edinburgh.

What do I need and how do I apply?

We’re looking for passionate engineers expecting a 2:1 or above (or equivalent) in a technical field – Electronic Engineering, Physics or a similar/related subject.

Training and development is excellent so candidates with no experience but a keen interest in engineering will be strongly considered. If you are excited about the role but feel as though you don’t meet all the requirements, we would encourage you still to apply.
