Mizuho is not your typical financial institution.
We offer a fantastic opportunity to gain experience within a global investment bank, working on real projects, whilst developing a strong professional network within a bank that prides itself on its inclusive, cooperative and friendly company culture.
We offer the best of both worlds - the feeling of a boutique work environment within a global organisation. Our steady growth in EMEA gives our people at all levels rewarding degrees of responsibility and a richer work experience than a small firm or an established giant could offer alone.
Summer Internship – Internal Audit Department Europe (IADE)
The Internal Audit Department at Mizuho operates independently to assess the effectiveness of the company’s first and second lines of defence.
Working in the internal audit function is a fantastic way to understand how the company operates, learn about different departments, the processes required to run the business and be involved in safeguarding the company from the risks it faces by highlighting control gaps and providing advice on how to manage them. Developing strong risk identification and risk management skills has meant individuals working in internal audit have gone on to be an asset to other departments if they choose to explore alternate career paths.
Within Internal Audit, we have a number of teams responsible for assessing the design and operating effectiveness of the firm’s risk management frameworks and internal controls within the various business lines. This ranges from Banking, Markets, Compliance and Payroll to Regulatory Compliance and Operations.
What will I be doing?
Over 10 weeks, you’ll work directly with the Internal Audit (IADE) team, gaining first-hand experience across:
- Supporting audits of various risk and control processes across business lines.
- Assessing and analysing potential risks within processes and systems.
- Executing testing procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, identifying deficiencies, and drafting audit findings.
- Supporting audit planning, fieldwork, and preparation of work papers and draft reports.
- Collaborating with wider IADE and cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions and improve internal controls.
- Engaging with stakeholders and contributing to continuous monitoring and risk impact analysis.
- Ensuring compliance with internal audit methodologies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Successful interns will be offered a place on our Graduate Programme starting in September 2027.
