Who Are We?
LGC is an international leader in the extended life sciences sector, including human healthcare, agri-food and the environment. LGC is headquartered in London and operates out of 19 countries worldwide and our 2,400 employees include internationally-recognised scientists who are experts in their field.
We manage high quality health and care research that benefits patients and the public and work with leading researchers and collaborators based in clinical and community settings, the academic sector and the life sciences industry.
We are currently looking to recruit two graduates to start from October 2019. Each step of our 22-month programme will challenge you and develop your managerial skills. You will be trained in research management and gain project management skills working on schemes LGC manages for the National Institute for Health Research. This will allow you to build your strengths and explore your career aspirations.
What will you be doing on the scheme?
- Understand how health research studies are awarded and monitored
- Review an aspect of our work as part of a study in your first six months to deepen your appreciation of our service
- Pitch to lead a multi-faceted management project to develop our grant management service
- Deliver this 8-month project with tailored mentoring and coaching
- Pitch to lead a second management project, potentially in a different area of interest
- Deliver this second 8-month project with greater autonomy.
Skills and training: What can we offer you?
You will receive training in the launch, assessment and monitoring of research funding as well as project management skills, as we see the chance to deliver projects as the best way for you to learn what it takes to be an effective manager. There will be a choice of projects to pitch for and the opportunity for you to hone your skills within a specialism.
You'll receive mentoring, professional development and will have opportunities to shadow directors and managers and work with cross-cutting teams and functions. On completion, you will be ready to take your career to the next stage, having acquired a comprehensive understanding of research management.
