Who are we?
Cameron Hume is an independently owned specialist fixed income manager based in Edinburgh. We pride ourselves on being an investment partner who puts the client at the centre of everything we do. Our investment team is a highly skilled and collaborative group of experienced individuals. To complement their skills, we have built a proprietary data analytics engine (CaTo) which is embedded in our investment process, enhancing portfolio performance, sustainability and promoting responsible investment. The firm currently manages over $1bn and, anticipating further growth, wishes to appoint an operations analyst to expand and develop our operational capabilities.
What will you be doing?
The operations analyst will report to the Head of Commercial and Operations and work with the team's investment managers. The operations analyst will gain an end-to-end understanding of investing in fixed income portfolios and instruments i.e. bonds, ETD and OTC derivatives. The firm aims to outsource majority of non-core activities, focusing principally on investment management and research. The role is therefore structured to support investment management, to manage the associated outsourced functions and to provide excellent client service. In particular, the individual areas are:
Investment Analysis
Contribute to the development of our analytics suite in R, C# and Python. projects Include:
- Curve Fitting
- Performance and Risk Attribution
- Portfolio Construction
- Derivative Pricing
- Prediction Models
- Econometric Modelling
Data Management
To support our investment team, the operations function maintains and manages data in an SQL Server data warehouse. The operations analyst will support the maintenance of data warehouse databases and enhance functionality in line with investment team requirements.
Investment Management Support
- Understanding, managing and developing trading and portfolio management systems
- Support the trade life cycle
- Client support
Business Operations
All our infrastructure, network and telephony, web site development and design services are outsourced. The operations analyst will support the management of our outsourced partners, monitor their performance, help with issue resolution and project manage any changes delivered by them.
What can we offer you?
- A salary of £33,000 per annum with a performance related bonus;
- The company will sponsor the candidate towards a CFA qualification and provide 5 days study leave per year

What do we need from you?
- A 2.1 or above degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) subject, Finance, Economics or equivalent (individuals with demonstrable programming experience will also be considered);
- A good level of numeracy and an interest in programming;
- The ability to analyse problems and design systematic solutions.
