How To Optimise Your CV With Key Words

Graduate JobsCVs

The busy lives of your potential employers means they often will only have time to scan through your CV, as opposed to dwelling over your carefully constructed sentences. It is therefore important for you to focus on key words to maximise the impact of you CV and make you stand out from the crowd.

Firstly, it is important for you to concentrate on what words stand out in the job description. You can utilise these instructions in order to tick your future employer's boxes. For example, if they specify that they are looking for a team player, make sure this comes across in your CV. Try to limit the length of your points in order to make the key words stand out; you do not want your impressive skills to get lost amidst dense, difficult to read fonts and irrelevant use of language. Your CV is not an opportunity for you to prove your extensive knowledge of vocabulary. Keep it concise, to the point and informative. Key words employers will expect to see include job responsibilities, accomplishments and qualifications. In order to further impress your potential employers, it will be useful to familiarise yourself with jargon associated with the industry in which you are seeking employment. Use common industry acronyms when necessary, and be as specific as possible. As job applications become increasingly web focused and employers rely on search databases to recruit candidates, effective use of key words will enhance your visibility to your future employers. Look out for which words are most frequently searched in order to adapt your CV to the interests of employers. In this way, you will boost the ranking of your CV in the search engine and potentially get hired!
