Job Description
We are looking for outstanding candidates for 3-12 month internships as Software Development Engineers in 2014. Our internships are flexible in length and can be designed to fit into university industry placement schemes. Successful candidates will have strong technical ability, a focus on the customer experience, great teamwork and communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.
Our interns join Agile teams at our development centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. From day one you will be working with experienced engineers, creating and growing major features and websites for Amazon worldwide. You will be exposed to every aspect of the process - from idea generation, business analysis and technical design through to front and middle-tier software development across a variety of technologies. Your systems will meet remarkably high standards of performance and reliability, and will operate at massive scale, 24x7.

asic Qualifications
On-track for a 1st class Honours degree in Computer Science or in postgraduate study. Applicants from a related discipline who can demonstrate a strong grounding in Computer Science will also be considered.
Essential skills:
Demonstrated strong object-oriented design and coding skills in Java (or equivalent languages such as C++C)
Strong computer science grounding in a broad range of algorithms and data-structures, OS fundamentals, programming languages and systems architecture
Strong analytical and excellent problem solving skills
Strong written and verbal English communications skills
The candidate will be highly pragmatic - a do-er as well as a thinker; we use technology to solve real-world problems expediently to achieve spectacular business returns
Preferred Qualifications
Previous software development work experience preferred but not essential.
