Thales UK Research and Technology (TRT UK) is the Reading based research centre forming part of Thales' network of centres situate in the UK, France, Netherlands and Singapore. We are defined by our people, around 100 science and engineering experts in a variety of technological domains. In this role you will contribute to real projects from the start whilst building experience in a variety of areas, such as innovation management, systems engineering, software engineering, digital signal processing, hardware design (digital and RF), vision processing, algorithm development are focused on the following domains:
Business Unit Information
The Engineering Hub is a function led, transverse engineering team working across multiple Domains providing engineering services to the DCMS and DAVAO Domains. The Hub will work closely with the Domains to create Integrated Project Teams for projects and bids. The Engineering Hub is a ?Shared Function? providing:
+ Expert resource to the Domains in accordance with Integrated Business Planning.
+ Development, ownership and action of technology roadmaps consistent with the strategic needs of the Domains.
+ Development, maintenance and growth of current, core and future capabilities.
Technical Skills
You will have an analytical approach, a desire for complex problem solving and strong written and oral communication skills.
You will have one or more of the following skills
+ Familiar with the engineering development process with an understanding of microwave engineering and or with an interest in antenna design.
+ Able to apply knowledge in a practical manner.
+ Have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to liaise effectively with people at all levels across the company.
+ Have strong time management skills and be able to recognise the need to work to agreed budgets and timescales.
+ Enjoy problem solving and be prepared to challenge assumptions and deliver alternative solutions or approaches.
+ Experience of using mathematical analysis modelling packages.
+ Desirable experience of using ADS, Genesys, Microwave Office, Microwave Studio, HFSS, MicroStripes or equivalent.
Minimum Educational Requirements
MEng or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications) you will have at least a 2.2 qualification
The Role
As well as undertaking a challenging Graduate Development Programme (GDP) that involves a mixture of courses and on the job training, individuals can expect to perform a real job from Day 1, as part of a team covering a variety of tasks - from working on microwave solutions for state of the art microwave components, sub-systems and equipment, to building prototype hardware and carrying out testing and proving of designs:
+ Assisting in the development of basic microwave designs within microwave engineering.
+ Developing skills techniques relevant to the microwave discipline.
+ Witnessing and adopting how hardware designs are developed, documented, tested, controlled and maintained.
+ Performing Simulation and analysis.
+ Providing reports of technical aspects and progress within the programme.
+ Preparing design documentation.
+ Providing Technical assistance to production.
+ Participating in visits or trials on off site where necessary.
