Renishaw offers exciting opportunities for graduates on their development programmes designed to develop ambitious, talented, and self-motivated individuals into skilled experts in their chosen field.
What will I gain from this graduate scheme?
This programme will be based on a series of placements where you will work on real projects, aligned to your ambitions and interests, that will deliver tangible results to this global business. By investing in your personal development, we hope to build up and broaden your knowledge and experience to create a confident and skilled professional to prepare you for a meaningful role within one of our product or services divisions.
What will I be doing on the scheme?
As a graduate entrant you will join a highly talented team of scientists and engineers working in Renishaw’s research and development group in Edinburgh. Physicists in Renishaw are involved in all stages of product development, from the initial product and technology research phase, through to the design, implementation and test of new products. They also provide support for newly released products, investigating and resolving problems that may occur in the field for existing products. An essential part of the role is liaison with specialists from other disciplines, particularly Mechanical, Electronics and Software Engineers.
By the end of the scheme, you will have developed specialist technical knowledge, skills, and background theory in areas such as optics, photonics, lasers, and systems engineering. An emphasis on reconciling numerical/theoretical simulations with experimental results will develop your fluency with specialist technical software depending on the project work undertaken. You will develop skills to work as part of a team and independently; to self-critically to design experiments, investigate results, communicate findings, and appreciate the strategical business relevance of your work.
Training and support are offered as required on a continuing basis to support your technical and professional development. In the long term, you might continue your development towards a Senior Engineer role, or possibly to a supervisory or managerial role.
Where will I be working?
This role is based in Renishaw’s research and development office on the research park of Heriot-Watt university on the western outskirts of Edinburgh.
What skills and qualifications do I need?
Graduates applying for this position should have a 2:2 or higher in a Physics, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline.
