Joining this firm as a Graduate Database Administrator you will be responsible for providing specialist support for multiple Sybase servers run as part of the client's Hosted environment. The role involves working closely with other employees and their customers in order to provide an effective and high quality technical support service.
A key function of this role requires the successful candidate to complete out of hours maintenance tasks. Typically this involves 4-6 hours one Saturday in every four.
Duties will include:
- Investigating and resolving reported issues
- Communicating updates effectively and promptly to the customer
- Logging, prioritising and keeping issues up to date on the issues tracking system
- Escalating issues to team leaders and management as appropriate
- Getting involved in application system checks, particularly in the morning, with the aim of identifying and resolving issues before they impact their customers.
Requirements:
- Computer Science or IT related degree (2.2 or above), or equivalent
- Good grounding in relational database systems, SQL knowledge and UNIX
- Ability to communicate confidently and concisely
- Available to work unsupervised one Saturday in every four to carry out routine maintenance tasks
Desirable:
- Ideally the successful candidate will already have some experience in Transact-SQL, ideally Sybase, on a UNIX platform
