Boult Wade Tennant's voluntary vacation scheme offers a select few the opportunity to see what it's really like to be a patent or trade mark attorney at one of the most successful IP firms in the UK. The week-long scheme consists of case lessons, workshops, shadowing and mentoring, it is a hands-on experience and the moment you walk through the door you'll be expected to contribute by working across teams and offices with real cases.
If you think you have the drive, talent and ambition to become a patent or trademark attorney, then we would love to hear from you.
Who can apply?
The scheme is intended for undergraduates in their penultimate or final year, and postgraduates. We also encourage applications from those who are already part of the professional world but who are seeking a change of career.
The common factor is that all those that get a place on the vacation scheme are excellent communicators and all have a relevant undergraduate/postgraduate degree and/or industry experience.
We intend to acknowledge all applications as soon as possible after receipt. Please note we do not accept combined applications, for both the voluntary vacation and trainee scheme. If you would like to apply for both, please send two separate applications.
How do I apply?
Writing a covering letter to accompany your CV is always difficult but it is a crucial part of the application process. It is your opportunity to demonstrate your capabilities and suitability to join our graduate programme. It is also a great vehicle to show a little of your personality and enables you to stand out from other well-qualified applicants.
Within your covering letter you must answer the following questions:
1. Why do you want to join Boult Wade Tennant’s voluntary vacation scheme?
2. What do you hope to gain from participating in the scheme?
3. Why do you think you would make a good patent or trademark attorney?
How you answer these questions is up to you but you must include full and succinct answers.
When will I hear if I have been successful?
The application process for 2017’s voluntary summer vacation scheme opened on 3 January 2017 and will remain open until the 28 April 2017, after which point all applications will be reviewed. We intend to acknowledge all applications as soon as possible after receipt. Please note we do not accept combined applications, for both the voluntary vacation and trainee scheme. If you would like to apply for both, please send two separate applications.
Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
