GRB Survey Shows UK Graduates Lack Work Experience

UK graduates feel that the most important factor preventing them from getting a graduate job is their lack of work experience,46% of respondents from the GRB survey felt that their employment opportunities were limited due to their lack of or insufficient work experience. The dichotomy is that for students to get graduate level employment they need work experience but to get work experience often they also need work experience! Graduates who have failed to gain any experience could get caught in this cycle of rejection. Employers from most sectors expect graduates to have undertaken some form of work experience before entering graduate programmes.

As well as a lack of work experience, 29% of graduates highlight a lack of confidence as their biggest weakness. It is important to practice good interview techniques before meeting an employer. This will increase your confidence and allow you to present your self in the best way. Even if you do not have a record of relevant work experience, you can still use examples to show an employer how you are able to apply your skills.
