Graduate Recruitment Debate - GRN London

Graduate Jobs

Leading graduate recruiters such as IBM, Marks and Spencer and Adobe recently had the pleasure of attending an historic event - a presentation by the current and past CEOs of AGR (Association of Graduate Recruiters).

Both speakers covered hot topics in graduate recruitment at the recent invite-only Graduate Recruiters Network: Live event in London. Part one was taken by Stephen Isherwood's presentation "Have I Got News For You" - righting the wrongs printed by the tabloids on graduate recruitment. Part two was time for Carl Gilleard OBE to reflect on the trends emerging in the market in the last few months. Here are five of the main insights from both presenters. 1. Unfilled Vacancies - 45% of AGR members had not met their recruitment target and suffered shortfalls. There are plenty of graduates entering the market but large recruiters are not able to find the quality they need.
2. Reneged Offers - Graduates are increasingly accepting more than one job offer. This is most marked in Accountancy (13% offers reneged) and least with FMCG (4% offers reneged).
3. Bigger is Better - On average, graduates stay 4.9 years with their first employer after University. This is longer if you employ over 20,000 staff (5.5 years).
4. Skills Gap - A CBI Survey showed that the most in-demand skill from graduates by employers is commercial awareness.
5. Student Debt - Recent figures from NUS predicts debt on graduation to reach £51,000. Our 2016 programme will feature presentations on March 15th, June 21st, September 13th and December 13th so keep these dates free. Invitations will be sent shortly for our next event in March. To be the lucky recipient you must firstly apply for FREE membership now for the Graduate Recruiters Network.
