If you have a love of the outdoors/environment, want to become a senior manager in the future and you want the opportunity to make a real impact on a business, then Forestry England is the company for you.
We are part of the Forestry Commission and we manage the nation’s forests and all the associated commercial and business interests. We look after the largest landholding in the country with over 1,500 forests, housing and varied recreational areas.
What does our programme involve?
We are looking for the next future leaders to start their journey on our two-year graduate programme starting summer or early Autumn 2024.
Our graduates manage or support projects in an operational forestry environment such as delivering woodland creation, planning forestry operations, recreation opportunity scoping, and community consultation. There will be lots of opportunities to work outdoors.
- Year one - You will be placed in the South, Central, or East Forest district, with our main district offices being Lyndhurst, Sherwood, and Thetford respectively. You will focus on learning about the different functional departments (e.g. operations, planning, environment, recreation) and gain hands on experience.
- Year two - You will join the National Operations Team, based in Bristol, and have the opportunity to develop policy, scope new projects, and support delivery of nation-wide programmes.
What can we offer you?
- £27,779 per annum
- 20% of total working time allocated to personal & professional development
- Level 5 Operational and Departmental Manager apprenticeship
- Civil Service pension
- Flexible working
- Access to our Graduate Network and Graduate Conference
- Three paid volunteering days a year
What are we looking for?
- A 2:1 degree or higher (or equivalent), or you are in your final year of university and expect to achieve a 2:1 grade or higher by the time you start the programme.
- Must have a full current driving licence (for use in the UK), as your role will involve travel to sites (forests, visitor centres and other offices), many of which are in rural locations and not served by public transport.
- The most crucial factor is your enthusiasm and desire to get involved, work together, be adventurous and demonstrate your interest in Forestry England and our values.
