As the UK's leading National Home Improvements company with over 50 years in the market this business has a fantastic reputation. They are an innovative, forward thinking company with continuous improvement at the forefront of everything they do.
They employ over 600 people throughout the UK as well as almost 1000 sub-contractors, all contributing to a £130million company annual turnover.
As their attention turns to the future of the company they are looking for innovative graduates to join them and eventually lead them on their mission to be the best.
When you join this business they will look to build on your base competencies with a structured development programme that will provide you with real job experience and technical capabilities. The scheme will incorporate a range of interesting and challenging projects within your chosen discipline to provide you with solid foundations for a career with them.
This is a rotational role and will give you a vast amount of exposure to a range of projects from re-designing an entire factory floor, to helping with the launch of a full product redesign, overhaul of internal management systems as well as specific maintenance projects.
With a focus on design you will get to flex your creative muscles whilst also being given a great deal of project management responsibility.
In more detail:
We are looking for two graduate engineers to start in September who will work across two main facilities (Kent and Cardiff).
Each facility employs around 95 staff and are both fast paced and diverse environments with a friendly and positive vibe. Whilst you will have one of these facilities as a permanent base, there can be up to 30% travel time between these sites as well as head office.
In this position you will be involved in 4-5 projects at one time, running simultaneously. Here is an idea of some of the scope of these projects:
- Full redesign of the products, implementing design changes and modifications
- Assisting as an integral part of a 2-3 year plan to overhaul the company's internal management system
- Optimising the maintenance strategy for the facility to ensure it is cost effective and supports machine efficiency, quality and business targets
- Supporting the reliability of the facility in terms of both quality and machine efficiency by actively monitoring and understanding the failure rates and patterns for the equipment
- Managing the bills of materials, liaising with 3rd party suppliers to ensure budgets and quality of materials is managed accurately
Beyond this, there is a great deal more you can get involved in; the aim is for you to build your way up to managing large scale projects, running virtual teams and ultimately shaping your career as an engineer who can make a significant difference to the projects they run.
Training and Progression:
With plenty of opportunity to own projects and be an integral part of the department, this scheme doesn't let you down; you'll be constantly kept busy and will get chance to really hone your time management skills and ability to deal with pressure.
In the first six months you will participate in company inauguration as well as five weeks of external training in areas such as six sigma training. Throughout your time there you will be well supported by your immediate team and managers - there is always someone on hand to help!
Furthermore this dynamic business is keen to support their ambitious employees with support towards a range of further qualifications and they are really flexible as to where you choose to progress your skills and how.
We are looking for a strong communicator who is driven, resilient and respectful. You will be able to implement common sense and good judgement to communicate across all levels of departments. We are also looking for:
- A 2:1 level degree ideally (although 2:2's considered) in General, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
- Demonstrable leadership skills
- Strong character who is willing to work hard with a flexible attitude
- Analytical problem solving ability
- Good design theory and CAD skills
- Some engineering industry experience would be ideal but not essential
- Strong attention to detail
- There will be a degree of travel between the company's sites so a driving licence is ideal
