Company
A commodities trading business specialising in the import and export of poultry products in the UK and internationally. They have been trading successfully for 25 years. They sell into food service, manufacturing, and catering and are growing a customer base in retail.
With a relatively small team, pre-lockdown turnover is £12m and despite the impacts of COVID-19, they are in profit for 2020 and business is on the increase. Their next phase of growth plans are to become a £15-20m business.
Role
A unique opportunity to work in a highly lucrative sales career whilst working directly with the managing director, who is looking to train and mentor his long-term replacement.
Start date -ideally Oct-Nov 2020
Based in Newark near Nottingham, typical hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday but flexibility is offered. Preference at the beginning is for candidates to spend more time in the office than working from home whilst getting up to speed but after that it is down to the individual.
The successful candidate will be starting off in sales, being supported by the managing director. Activities include:
- Sales and new business development - following a mix of cold, warm and inbound leads for new business, grow and develop existing accounts, organise and attend meetings with potential customers and producers.
- Account management - build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, manage the buying and pricing for customers.
- Logistics and operations - Learn the background of global trading, understand and complete export documents, understand the global shipping costs and customs tariffs.
- Finance - understand the P and L and balance sheets and opening business accounts with suppliers and customers.
- Commercial - marketing, attend industry events and trade shows.
- Helping to develop the customer database.
Note that there will be plenty of international travel (once safe to do so). This could be in Europe, Central or South America, Africa, Middle East and South East Asia. Last year there were trade shows in Barcelona, Paris and Cologne as well as customer and supplier visits in Cape Town, Poland, Germany, Romania, Italy, India and Latin America.
Progression - as well as a clear progression in success key account sales, the managing director is looking for someone with the personality and leadership prospects to replace him in the longer term.
What You Need
- Preference for a business or management degree OR sales or buying experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- A problem solver and quick thinker.
- Highly motivated and driven by success.
- Ambitious and hungry to chase sales.
- Ideally a driving license and own car or short term plans to have this in place.
- Able to work in Newark.
What Would be a Bonus
- Fluency in any other languages as well as English.
- Experience in using sales CRM systems such as Salesforce or Hubspot.
