The GDF is our two-year scheme that develops people who are passionate about, and show great potential in, their chosen field of business or engineering. Each year we take in approximately 170 graduates.
By combining formal learning with real challenges across a number of placements, the GDF will give you a solid foundation for a successful career within one of our UK businesses.
Graduate Development Framework: Engineering
Inspired engineering is the foundation of our business. As a large employer of professional engineers, we support professional accreditation and have opportunities in a wide range of engineering disciplines including:
Electrical and Electronic
Join our Electrical and Electronic Engineers and you'll make decisions about electronic product content, optimise hardware and software design concepts, develop sophisticated design processes and test complex products.
Manufacturing and Production Operations
Working in Manufacturing and ProductionOperations, you'll balance costs, safety and quality to transform theoretical designs into physical products that satisfy our customers.
Mechanical
As a Mechanical Engineer, you can help turn ideas into products. You'll deal with the fabrication, installation, operation, application, maintenance and repair of mechanical or electromechanical machines, equipment, tools, engines and systems.
Naval Architects
Our Naval Architects deal with the basic structure of the marine system. Join them to help define the essential, core design features and elements that provide the framework for all that follows.
Software
Software Engineers work at the heart of our electrical products at all stages of the product lifecycle. You'll be involved in determining initial requirements, designing functional prototypes, developing production standard solutions and testing the finished product to its limits.
Systems
Join our Systems Engineers and you'll focus on defining customer needs and required functionality, documenting requirements, then proceeding with design synthesis and system validation while considering the complete problem.
We have also employed graduates to roles in Aircraft Maintenance, Civil Engineering, Metallurgy, Noise and Vibration Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Product Safety, Research and Structural Engineering.
Your Career Development
We recognise that development is key to you fulfilling your professional potential and us delivering our business commitments. That's why we've created a scheme where you take ownership of your career aspirations and we give you support, training and practical experience to help you succeed.
First things first: your career with us starts with an induction to welcome you to your chosen UK business. Here, you'll meet fellow graduates and find out more about what your future holds. Then, shortly after joining, you'll be assigned a mentor who can act as a source of advice and insight when you need it.
You'll also participate in 'Graduate Developing You', a series of development modules delivered by an Impact International award winning learning and development provider. The course brings our graduates together from across the different businesses and aims to help you better understand yourself and others to drive performance.
During the GDF you'll also attend our UK Graduate Conference, which brings together graduates from across the globe to network, engage with a diverse range of managers and learn more about the inspiring work we do. There is also the opportunity to celebrate success through the Graduate Awards ceremony which takes place at the gala dinner.
All of this is designed to complement your placements, fuel your ambition, and give depth to your training and career.
