Ark Teacher Training - Who are we?
Ark is an innovative international charity that believes in transforming lives through education. We want to give every young person, regardless of their background, access to great education through running great schools - and training great teachers.
Ark Teacher Training is a one-year training programme giving the best graduates the opportunity to train on the job in one of the Ark schools, learning from some of the best teachers and leaders in the industry. By qualifying as a teacher in one of our 34 schools in London, Portsmouth, Birmingham or Hastings, you can make a difference to the future of young people across the country, while teaching a subject you love.
What does our training look like?
On our one-year training programme, you'll be working towards a Qualified Teacher Status and your PGCE. You'll be based in the classroom from day one, so you'll be making a difference straight away alongside inspirational teachers who will support you.
You'll be in school from the start, but will receive a huge amount of support. In your school, your coach and subject tutor will give you weekly feedback to help you improve. Our central Ark team of education experts will work with you to provide you with weekly training, giving you everything you need to become a great teacher. This weekly training takes place in small groups, so you'll have a peer support group throughout the year too. You will receive a tax-free bursary during your training year, up to a possible £30,000 depending on your degree class, which will help support you financially
Who do we look for in our trainees?
- Highly motivated
- A passion for working with children in areas of high need
- Strong belief that you can make a difference in the classroom
Eligibility criteria:
- 2:1 at degree level from a UK Higher Education institution, or an equivalent qualification (predicted or obtained).
- Grade C or above for GCSE English, Maths and, if you want to teach primary, Science.
- For secondary teaching: a degree in the subject you wish to teach, and if you don't, a strong A-level in that subject.
- Some experience with children, even if not in the classroom. We'll ask you about how these experiences convinced you to become a teacher.
