Your online identity is constructed by any content on the internet that is attached to you as an individual. Having a strong visible online identity is often a positive thing for a Graduate when it comes to recruitment. An online identify is portrayed through social networking profiles, business networking files, blogging or tweeting, news items and any other online content that is attached to you.

Recruiters and Employers viewing your online brand identify has now become a feature of graduate recruitment. Think of your online presence as your personal brand. It is therefore important that you consider how you promote yourself or opportunities may pass you by.

Tips for a Positive Online Identity

- Clean Living - It's a good idea to appear fun and socially active on networking sights such as Facebook. However, Try and avoid any content where you are having a little too much fun. Things like breaking the law, excessive drinking/drugs and nudity will turn employers off. Do not let your self become associated with this sort of thing.

- Clean Mind - try and avoid any controversial content. This can range from a silly political joke that seemed funny at the time to a heated anonymous blog. It's not about changing your personality or views, its just that websites may not be the best way to publish them. Try also to avoid overly sexual content and swearing.

- Online CV - Use you profile on social networking sights as an online CV. if you are sporty or Musical allow this to come across in your profile as this is an opportunity to impress employers. Also many networking sights allow you to list previous employers.

- LinkedIn - If you have not already, sign up with a linked in account. LinkedIn is an online networking site for professionals. Even if you do not have any contacts to start with you will quickly find more as you proceed through the graduate recruitment process and into your first job. Visit LinkedIn
