Want to have an adventure? Do you want to help run a new lodge on Ghana’s beautiful coast? Stumble Inn, just outside Elmina, in Ghana, has been built over the last 18 months by English owners, with sustainable, ecological and traditional concepts in mind. With a clay, timber and thatch volunteer block that can sleep up to 48 people in dormitory accommodation, to private en-suite huts, using the same building materials, Stumble Inn is already catering for backpackers, travelers, holiday makers and longer term volunteers.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain overseas practical experience, and help run a lodge on Ghana's beautiful coast. This is a voluntary position which will provide you with fantastic experience and look invaluable on your CV. How many people get to manage a lodge on a beach?! Accommodation and food will be included, which will be in return for a commitment of a few months to the project (negotiable).

Please see www.stumbleinnghana.com for a snapshot of how the website is going to look, and if you would like to see more photos please feel free to contact us.

The Assistant Manager

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to spend 3 - 12 months (or more) in Ghana working with the manager, managing the lodge, staff, and setting up processes for the effective running of the place. You will come from a background in leisure and tourism management, ideally with experience of working overseas / travelled in Africa (not essential however!).

Specifics include:

  • Helping to manage bar and kitchen. The on-site restaurant will serve a variety of local dishes alongside home favourites, in a relaxed beachfront setting
  • Ensuring that the kitchen / bar is well run and caters to the needs of guests; monitoring input and output of drinks and foods; discussing and developing menus, staff and systems
  • Working with Ghanaian staff to identify suppliers, place purchase orders and manage supplies.

  • Ensure that Stumble Inn has a great atmosphere, where guests are not only happy to stay, but happy to recommend to others.

The successful applicant will meet the following personal criteria:

- Demonstrable experience in the leisure and tourist industry, is desirable but not essential
- Ability to build lasting relationships
- Vision and innovation
- Self starter, with the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Committed to the principles of integrating with local communities
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic individual

This position would be ideal for someone looking to do an internship, where they have both responsibility and the ability to use their own initiative. Whether it is someone looking to go to Africa for 3 months and use this as a volunteer placement with a difference, or someone already in country wanting to take time out from other commitments, the placement will develop you as a person, and be guaranteed to give you an unforgettable experience!

We are looking for the successful applicant to start as soon as possible.

To apply please email your CV and a covering letter stating why you would be suitable for this position. We look forward to hearing from you. Please submit your application as soon as possible.
