Police Volunteers complement the roles of police officers and police staff and add value to the wider police service.​ Becoming a volunteer will allow you to improve your skills, gain new experiences and, possibly decide whether policing is a suitable career path you would enjoy.​

Volunteers are able to assist in a wide range of activities depending upon the location and needs of the Force and local communities.​ Roles include:

· Assisting at police station front counters
· Taking part in community safety and crime prevention initiatives
· Provide specialist support to departments that require them such as language skills and computer skills
· Telephoning victims of crime for feedback on the Force’s performance
· General administrative roles such as typing and filing.​

Police Volunteers are only deployed in non-confrontational roles and work hours to suit themselves.​

Training

Training is provided for volunteers so that you can carry out your role effectively.​ We value your skills and aim to build on them to our mutual benefit.​ Training will be given to enable you to do the specific task you have volunteered to do.​

Volunteers will be subject to the Force Vetting procedure that checks not only the volunteer but also their immediate family.​
