Police Volunteers complement the roles of police officers and police staff and add value to the wider police service. Becoming a volunteer will allow you to improve your skills, gain new experiences and, possibly decide whether policing is a suitable career path you would enjoy.
Volunteers are able to assist in a wide range of activities depending upon the location and needs of the Force and local communities. Roles include:
· Assisting at police station front counters
· Taking part in community safety and crime prevention initiatives
· Provide specialist support to departments that require them such as language skills and computer skills
· Telephoning victims of crime for feedback on the Force’s performance
· General administrative roles such as typing and filing.
Police Volunteers are only deployed in non-confrontational roles and work hours to suit themselves.
Training is provided for volunteers so that you can carry out your role effectively. We value your skills and aim to build on them to our mutual benefit. Training will be given to enable you to do the specific task you have volunteered to do.
Volunteers will be subject to the Force Vetting procedure that checks not only the volunteer but also their immediate family.
