"If you've done Raleigh, you've actually acquired and honed a lot of the skills that you need in the workplace, in terms of leadership, management, project delivery...it's a pretty phenomenal thing." Richard Reed, Co-founder, Innocent Drinks

The Raleigh Graduate Bursary Award for Volunteering Overseas is an initiative aimed at recent graduates and final year students who are looking to develop key employability skills, explore new cultures and make a real difference to the world they live in. The Award assists those graduates who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to undertake a 10 week overseas expedition with Raleigh where you'll work on much needed community and environmental projects, plus undertake a challenging adventure phase.

Raleigh has 250 bursary awards available, each one worth £2000
- Available for expeditions to Borneo, Costa Rica and Nicaragua or India
- Departing in October 2010, January - February 2011 and JuneJuly 2011
- You will be required to fundraise £1000 towards the expedition and also pay for your flights, vaccinations and kit

Nicholas Oldroyd went on expedition to Borneo in Autumn 2009 with the Raleigh Graduate Bursary Award:

"As a Raleigh venturer, I, along with an amazing group of people helped bring fresh clean drinking water to a community that had none. We contributed to the protection of one of the most remote virgin jungles in the world by building a 200ft suspension bridge which would provide the infrastructure required for protection against further logging and destruction. We also replanted coral reefs and trekked through thick jungle to the foot hill border regions of Indonesia.

After graduating with a degree in architecture in June 2009 I faced an industry with minimum positions available towards which, hordes of equally qualified students were throwing themselves. I applied, applied and applied and got nowhere. On my return from Raleigh, the job climate was just as bad as it had been before, however what had improved, was me. I applied again and was then able to show off my achievements and talk with real conviction and passion about what I had done on expedition. I received several interviews as well as job offers, and finally I accepted a position with one of the top architecture firms in the world, Foster+Partners. Now I am working on multi-million pound projects all over the globe.

Raleigh will humble you, defy your every expectation and provide you with an experience that will inspire you and make you stand you apart from the next guy."

Raleigh, a youth and education charity, is endorsed by leading employers and government departments, so you don't have to feel guilty about having the time of your life!
