Junior Research Analyst - Generalist

This role of Junior Research Analyst is based in the generalist research team, who cover business analysis, company financial analysis, macroeconomics, demographics, local infrastructure, corporate environment and the non-profit sector. For those with a thirst for knowledge and the desire to work in a challenging and stimulating environment, it offers a great opportunity. There is considerable scope for development and progression into a more senior research role. The primary job responsibilities for a Junior Research Analyst fall into two categories; which are client service team support and knowledge development.

Client service team support

Collecting, analysing and synthesising information on institutions and markets from a broad variety of sources. You will support consultants by providing industry overviews, case materials, financial analyses and other knowledge products.

You will work with consultants to scope and prioritise their research needs, identifying the key issues through discussions with requesters and, on that basis, determine the most appropriate, cost-effective and timely research solutions. You will then gather the necessary raw information using a broad spectrum of sources and will organise, analyse, and synthesise the findings into targeted end products. These end products may be in the form of single exhibits, written summaries, basic fact packs, and spreadsheets.

Knowledge development

You are encouraged to build a solid knowledge base, developing an appropriately broad understanding of the relevant structure, players, and trends in your topic area.

The essential skills for this role are as follows:

- Good problem solving, analytical, and quantitative skills
- Inquisitive, investigative nature
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Solid understanding of economic, financial, and general business concepts and terminology
- Professional attitude and service orientation, team player
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and basic financial analysis packages

Education
An undergraduate degree from a Times top 20 institution with demonstrated analytical expertise is required. For those without related work experience an advanced degree is also required. Concentration or advanced work in a business related discipline is a plus.

Previous experience
One to two years of relevant industry, political, economic, or public sector experience in a research role.
