This company is a well-known and strong leader in the development and provision of trading and financial software environments for specialist distribution, wholesale, merchant and retail industry sectors. Its software is able to help clients increase profit potential, improve efficiency, reduce cost, provide superior customer service and gain visibility and control across their organisation.
As a member of the Software Engineering department you will be involved in the full software lifecycle, developing software as part of a project team to create the next generation of software projects.
Duties will be varied and include:
- Write code for new features to deliver against specified requirements
- Maintenance of existing features, including defect fixing
- Design small software components that form part of a larger solution
- Conduct unit testing of own code, fixing errors before submitting to integration and system test
- Submit code to peer reviews and modify code in line with the feedback received
- Provide clear updates on progress against assigned tasks
- Escalate any problems and exceptions in a timely manner, with suggested solutions or workarounds
Requirements:
- 2:1 level degree or above (or expected) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or Physics
- Excellent A-Level grades (or equivalent) including Mathematics
- Experience developing software to a professional or academic standard
- Passion for software design and development
Desired skills:
- Familiarity with Oracle and or SQL
- Windows and UNIXLinux
- Experience of C++, C#, Visual Basic
- Script language development experience - Perl, Python, Bash, Tcl
- Commercially-focused software development experience
- Formal testing methodologies; experience of testing own programs
