My client provides cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and related building materials in over 40 countries. They have been trading for over 100 years and employ in excess of 50,000 staff worldwide.
The successful candidate will be available to start in May 2011 and must be available for an assessment day in early April.
My client offers an excellent opportunity to join their graduate development programme. The purpose of the role is to provide expertise to production and quality control departments, supplying technical support and technical solutions.
The development programme will last for approximately 12 months. However, progression will be dependant on an opportunity becoming available and should a suitable opportunity become available within the first year the graduate will be promoted early if they are considered to be ready.
You will follow a general programme of plant and issue familiarisation for 6 months to give a broad overview of cement manufacturing and related issues. For the remaining part of the development programme they will join the relevant department and undertake a number of projects under the supervision and guidance of the department head.
Graduate Engineers will be based in the Midlands for the 12 month development programme and after this time you may be posted to a different location to further your career. Therefore geographic mobility is important.
To help you with your development you will be assigned a mentor from the outset and you will be assigned to a senior Supervising Manager (either the Operations Manager or the Maintenance Manager) who will have overall responsibility for your development. You will also be assigned a Line Manager for your stay in each Department.
Essential skills for the role include:
- To hold a minimum 2:2 in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject from a top university
- To be able to start work in May 2011
- Fluency in English
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills
- Strong analysis and problem solving skills
- Demonstrable leadership
