My client designs industrial vision systems within the medical and healthcare manufacturing sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Developing and installing new machinery into production lines, modifying existing equipment for new purposes or increased economy, designing new products or redesigning existing ones;
- supervising the assembly of parts to produce products;
- using computer-aided design for detailed design, generating parts lists and specifications;
- considering various factors, including use of the product, its environment, materials, the economics of production, safety, legal requirements, quality, production requirements, cost and ease of maintenance;
- from sketched outline designs, developing concept designs to present to the customer;
- designing and implementing cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability and throughput;
- developing a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines;
- developing, testing and evaluating theoretical designs;
- discussing and solving complex problems with sub-contractors, suppliers and customers;
- making sure a product can be made again reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments;
- managing projects using engineering principles and techniques;
- liaising with third parties, such as component manufacturers to ensure delivery of deadlines whilst satisfying the high quality standard expected;
- planning and designing new production processes;
- producing details of specifications and outline designs;
- recommending modifications following prototype test results;
- using research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modelling and computer-aided design;
- considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints;
- working with other professionals, within and outside the engineering specialism.
Essential skills for the role:
- To hold a 2:1 degree in Mechanical Engineering or related;
- a real passion for engineering;
- communicate well, both verbally and in writing;
- ability to draw and interpret engineering drawings;
- design skills, the ability to think and conceptualise in three dimensions;
- participate as an effective member of a team;
- persistence to pursue recurring problems relentlessly until a solution is found;
- creativity and innovation;
- attention to detail;
- ability to select functional and economical materials;
- understanding of a range of technologies and engineering drawings;
- knowledge of computer-aided design and rapid prototyping;
- knowledge of computer-assisted design software;
- excellent time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines;
- flexible approach to working hours.
