Our client is one of the world's largest physical traders for most of the metals and minerals in which it deals, a major force in the world coal and coke markets, and one of the largest non-integrated physical traders of crude oil and oil products.
Founded in the 70s, they are a private company who engages specifically in commodity trading. From their London office, they trade in various products, including oil, gas and sugar and operate as a subsidiary of their parent international company.
I have an excellent opportunity for a bright graduate to join this global company as a Junior Shipping Analyst.
This role involves vessel tracking using the Whiteboard program and demands a strong understanding of how this program works. Vessels emit signals which are then picked up and translated onto a map indicating where the vessels are located. Tracking vessels in this way helps with fuel arbitrages etc and so enables the traders to take long-term positions.
This role demands a lot of interaction between traders, shipping desks and port agents.
In this role you will need to:
- Improve the program
- Use the program information for trading and shipping desks
This is an amazing opportunity to work with an actual trading system.
The key responsibilities are as follows:
- Collecting information from the various sources at hand, including traders, charterers and operators, in addition to brokers and agents
- Cleaning, organising and structuring data for manipulation
- Producing detailed reports for the various trading desks on specific product flows
Requirements:
- Min 2.1 degree in Maths, Statistics or related
- A levels at grade B or above, including Maths
- The successful candidate will be diligent, enthusiastic and highly self motivated
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to develop strong analytical skills in a highly interactive, strategic, project role
- Ability to organise
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in all tasks
- Computer literacy and experience in MS Excel
