Graduates start out their career as Delivery Consultants, focusing purely on candidate attraction for live projects. Within six months you will be looking to step up to a Senior Delivery Consultant role with more advanced responsibilities and more challenging targets. After a further six months you have the chance to go down one of two pathways; a business to business sales route (Business Manager) or an advanced delivery route (Principal Consultant). Principal Consultants take charge of the entire recruitment process from when the Business Manager has won the assignment, from initial brief taking, to working with Delivery Consultants to attract the best talent and managing the interview process and offers.
Delivery Consultants get the chance to meet clients and to travel internationally in support of the Business Managers. Recently hired graduates have been to trade shows in Berlin, Washington and Singapore in their first six months in the business.
Typical hours are 8.30am-6pm with a 4pm finish on Fridays. However if you are working on an international project you may be asked to come in earlier or later depending on the nationalities of candidates you are targeting.
All employees start in a six week induction programme, starting out with the basic fundamentals of recruitment from CV qualification, to successful interviewing, candidate attraction, headhunting techniques and job pitching. You will also learn about ICP Search as a business; its history, business systems, specialist technologies, understanding of clients and how technology affects them. Every DC gets assigned a mentor. Inductions are carried out by the Chief Executive. The Director takes on classroom training modules and external training is provided by Elite Group.
Graduates with no recruitment experience will get a basic salary of £20k and will be eligible for commission from the off (realistically you can earn from month three). Year one OTE is £27k+.
You must:
- Be educated to degree level. Ideally you will have achieved a 2.1 classification and will have 'solid' A-levels or equivalent
- Have demonstrated a hard-working ethic in previous jobs (student or postgraduate). Sales or target-driven experience is desirable
- Be thick-skinned. Headhunting is challenging and the best candidates are hard to attract
- Be ambitious. This includes being motivated to earn commission but also wanting to impress clients and colleagues, having a thirst for knowledge, wanting to become an expert and motivating others around you
- Be articulate. You will be dealing with senior professionals from all over the world who will communicate in formal English not slang. Fluency in other languages is useful but not essential
- Be prepared to work in an office-based environment with plenty of telephone work
- Have interests. Interesting people tend to be interested in others. You will be asked about your 'greatest achievement' in interview
- Understand the value of money
- Be trustworthy and respectful of others
