Outline of the Training Schemes and Training Provided

Over six months you will work on a magazine, newsletter or one of our other major businesses, conferences, training or events, as a journalist, conference producer, researcher or salesperson, whilst undertaking a structured training programme. The Company aims to offer all trainees who successfully complete the training scheme a role at the end of six months.

A structured training programme is provided which is designed to develop your skills. Our training courses include:

Introduction to Financial Markets Course
This is an intensive course which provides a solid grounding in the operations of the world’s international capital markets.

Editorial Courses

1) News writing
What news is and how to find it; researching and planning; story structure with particular emphasis on introductions; techniques for interviewing and covering press conferences.

2) Feature writing
Feature-writing skills, from initiating an idea and developing it, to research, interviewing and construction.

3) Interviewing skills
How to prepare background research, establish credibility, build rapport and structure your questions; techniques for face-to-face and telephone interviews; note-taking; how to get reluctant interviewees on your side.

4) Subbing
The basic skills for subbing for news and features; when to correct and when to rewrite; working to a consistent style; editing copy; proof-reading, how to write accurate, punchy headlines.

Sales Courses

1) Professional Selling Skills
Sales techniques: how to sell effectively by telephone and face-to-face

2) Client Meeting Skills
Face-to-face selling: how to prepare, plan and conduct effective meetings

3) Profitable Negotiation Skills
Develop effective influencing and negotiation skills

Career Development and Further Training
Many in-house courses are organised to keep people up to date with market changes and to improve their industry knowledge. In addition to those outlined above, the Company offers courses on libel, marketing, people management, advanced editorial and sales skills.

Management Development Programme
The Company runs a Management Development Programme for employees with several years’ experience who show outstanding potential.
