Earth Science can also be known as geoscience, and is an encompassing term for all sciences relation to the planet. Arguably, the earth is unique in terms of planetary science, being the only know life-bearing planet.

There are four majot disciplines in earth sciences, in which skills and knowledge can be attained by successful students, these are geography, geology, geophysics and geodesy, using physics, chemistry, biology, chronology and mathematics to attempt to understand the principals of the earth.
