Archaeology is a systematic study of human existence and culture by the recovery and examination of artefacts. It is a diverse discipline which involves recording and interpreting artefacts, organising excavations, and educating school children, developers or even the media.

Some specialist archaeologist roles will benefit from biology, botany, medicine, geography, geology, zoology and environmental science degrees may be more appropriate than a purely archaeological education.

There is a wide variety of specialist postgraduate archaeology course which may be helpful in certain roles, such as human or animal bone analysis.
